Foods to Tonify the Kidneys

Low back pain in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is often related to what acupuncturists call deficient Kidney Qi, Yin or Yang. We are speaking here of the energetic function of the organ, not about the biochemical state of the kidney organ. One may have a Kidney deficiency and have perfect functioning of the kidneys from a Western medical perspective. Diet therapy is another method in TCM of boosting the energetic functioning of the organs or Zang Fu. Listed are foods traditionally considered to enhance the energy of the Kidneys: A major tenet of TCM is all things in balance. These food recommendations are meant as a guide to foods, which may support your acupuncture treatment and should be taken in moderation, as should all foods.

Microalgae: chlorella, spirulina, wild blue-green algae.

Fish: including shellfish, oysters, clams, mussels, salmon, tuna.

Organ meats: liver, kidney brain, bone and bone marrow, organic if possible

Almonds, milk, nettles, royal jelly and bee pollen: these foods are considered to enhance Jing, or the original vitality we are all born with.

Other foods good for the Kidneys are millet, wheat, black beans, chestnuts, walnuts, raspberries, and strawberries.
